PERFORMING COMPANY: Our goal at VDC is to provide training and classes for performers that want to make this a serious part of their lives. There still is and always will be a way to take recreational classes at VDC. But for those performers that have the dancer “bug” and are hungry for it, we want to create the pathway for their futures. For our performance companies, we are always seeking legitimate performance opportunities such as festivals, locally produced shows, community events and more things that come our way as well as our own shows and student choreography showcases. Performances have consisted of events such as The Denver Children's Hospital, Music Festival, Golden's Candlelight Walk, VDC's two annual performances and the Colorado Railroad Museum’s Polar Express! VDC Dance Company is a big commitment and regular attendance is a must. We know many of you are ready for this next step! Two ballet classes plus company repertory (choreography) classes are required plus 2 more technique classes such as Jazz, Hip Hop, Acro, Modern, Contemporary or Tap.
Competition Teams: We provide the opportunity for attending convention/competition twice a year. This team is by audition/invitation only and all company requirements apply as well as additional rehearsal hours.
Hip Hop Team: Hip Hop Team is available by audition or invitation only. This team performs and takes classes at the annual Monsters event held in Denver in October/November. Extra rehearsals and commitments are required.
Virtuosity Dance Centre is proud to include the AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE® National Training Curriculum, a breakthrough 9 level program that combines high quality artistic training with the basics of dancer health and child development. The ABT® National Training Curriculum consists of a comprehensive set of age-appropriate, outcome-based guidelines to provide the highest quality ballet training to dance students of all ages and skill levels. We believe in community. We believe in friendship, kindness and inclusion. We believe in passion, dedication, commitment and hard work. We believe that a dancer isn't just a technician but an artist. We believe in being good mentors and creating new ones for the next generation. We believe in the arts and their power to transform and shape our world for the better.
A word from Amanda: From as far back as I have memories; I have known my passion for dance. It is an art form that has no boundaries, no prejudices and no need for words. It can touch the most unlikely spectator. To move on stage is to truly know freedom. Nothing in this world excites me more than seeing a human being moving their body in a way that makes my heart ache, that tells me their story without ever speaking out loud. As a teenager,, dance saved my life.. The discipline, the need for my body to be in optimal shape, the schedule and above all; the director and fellow company members’ belief and trust in me to arrive fully and perform my best at all times prevented me from making self-damaging decisions. Dance does that for a person.. Not only does one learn to plié or pirouette, but one learns to be dependable, punctual and how to commit. Most young dancers don’t continue into a dance career, but the lessons learned apply in all aspects of their lives’ choices. Even though I stress proper technique and strive for correct and clean lines from my dancers, I am teaching much more than dance. Sometimes, it even seems like dance may be simply the backbone of what I am teaching. A good dance class teaches a dancer how to be a person in the world, how to be a student and learn, how to be a friend and how to be a leader. A dancer learns to be passionate, committed and expressive. A good dance class can teach a child to be an artist. I was blessed with a mentor that created that environment for all of us dancers, including myself. The studio was a place where we were safe, loved and appreciated while surrounded by our closest friends. These are friends we still keep today. As soon as I began teaching dance, I realized this was the gift I wanted to give back. I want to provide walls full of friends, love, warmth and encouragement for the next generation. Teaching dance is the love of my life. I provide training that will take dancers to a professional level if that is what they wish but I will also be training dancers to be great people with the ability to succeed in whatever they choose in life..
About Performing with VDC:
Created in 2013, VDC operates with a Fall semester that runs mid-August to mid-December with a Holiday season performance and a second (separate semester) that runs mid-January to the end of May and concludes with a second Spring concert of dance. The students put many hours and a lot of hard work into their dance education. It takes hours to learn and perfect one minute of choreography. For this reason and also to accommodate many schedules, we host our performance twice every season with one evening show and one matinee (company dancers and adults may have more performance opportunities). Parents do not need to attend every performance (although we hope you do). We know the schedule can be demanding for families in this modern day. Just know that your little dancer is in good hands and if they find that dance ignites something within them, they crave the stage time. The stage is the reward for all of the hours of work put into the studio. While non-performers sometimes don’t understand this feeling, trust us, your dancers do!
